Fruit Of The Spirit ... Self Control

March 9, 2016

This week concludes our study on the Fruit of the Spirit. Next week we will go back to our march through the Bible !  We left off at 2 Samuel, so we will start there. Also, we will start a new blog for each book or study we do as we go through the Bible. Since there are 66 books in the bible and any studies we may do along the way, I expect we will have around 70 different blogs for you to study and read. Self Control is mentioned only 4 times in the bible and one of those times is when it list it as one of the fruits. So today we will look at the three other verses in the bible and see what God says about self control.

" And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. "      1 Corinthians       9:25

Here self control (temperate) is being explained by comparing sports training to spiritual training. Olympians train their whole life to get a gold medal, Christians should be training themselves their whole life for the spiritual gold medal !  By doing anything your whole life, takes a lot of self discipline. The imperishable crown spoken of here is eternal life with Jesus and to hear those words," well done my good and faithful servant. "

" Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; "        1 Peter         1:13

When men went into battle they would "gird up their loins " by pulling their robes up through between their legs and tying it into their belts. This would allow them to move quickly without falling. Here Peter uses this term to tell us to tie up any loose thoughts we may have and to show self control in our thinking. The last verse we looked at talked about the body and here we see that self control is also required by our minds.

" .. to knowledge self control, to self control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. "              2 Peter       1:6

Peter is showing here how the fruit interact with each other and where it can lead to. If you envision a set of stairs and each one is a fruit of the spirit, you can easily see how they all interact to get to the top. The interesting part here is that the top is NOT Godliness, but Love. In fact the top two are love ! The Hebrew word for brotherly kindness is also love. The bible uses the word love for both of the Hebrew words.

I hope you have enjoyed this study of the Fruit of the Spirit. If you would like to know more about use we are at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Longsuffering

March 3, 2016

There are nine (9) Fruit of the Spirit listed in the New Testament. There is another place where it appears that there are three additional Fruits. However, on closer inspection we see that these three (3) additional Fruits are the same ones just with a different name. Long suffering is one of the three. When it is mentioned again, it is called patience. So, any time you see the word patience in the Bible, it can be used interchangeably with long suffering. I mention this because if you use a concordance or bible dictionary, it is possible you will not find one of these words and all scripture may be found under the other word.

" My brethren, count it all joy, when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience."      James   1 ; 2-3

When I first got saved, I thought I needed to learn patience. So I started to pray for that fruit.Through all that followed I continued to pay for patience on a daily basis. Then one day my bible teacher told me I should not pray for that because the way God teaches patience is through trials and tribulations. He was right !  I lost my home, my wife, my job, and all of my possessions three different time !  All in the matter of about a year.  Lesson : Be careful what you pray for... God IS listening .

" But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience. "            Luke    8 : 15

This is the last verse of when Jesus is explaining the parable of the Soils. This parable tells of the four conditions that the heart can be in when it hears the Word of God. Here Jesus says that this is the ONLY way to receive God's Word, to keep it, and to produce good fruit. That is with a good and noble heart. Notice also that it says  "with patience."  Many people think that when a person gets saved, their behavior should change over night. This verse clearly says that it will produce fruit over time with a good heart !

" ...rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer..."     Romans       12 : 12

Here we can see that things that are worth doing as a Christian should be done a certain way. Notice that here again we see the words patient and tribulation together again !! BUT notice also that right after that it says "Continuing steadfastly in prayer." This verse tells us plainly that even in the midst of your troubles and tribulation you should pray continually and steadfastly !!

" The servant therefor fell down before him saying,"Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.""               Matthew    18 : 26

This is a parable that talks about forgiveness and evil. In the parable, the servant is forgiven all of his debt. Then he goes out and beats his servant who owes him money. The Master hears of his double dealing and has him put in jail ! We may say that the master is Jesus and we are the servant. If we deal falsely with Jesus we will be put into jail ( Hell ). Jesus died to forgive our debt (sin) and we are forgiven if we deal straight and ask for forgiveness.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Peace ( Part 2 )

February 25, 2016

This week we will wrap up our study of Peace. We will look at 4 or 5 verses and see what God's word has to say about Peace. This one is so much fun to teach because most people think they understand what peace is.... then BOOM !  God shows them otherwise.

" Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. "          John 14 : 27

When Jesus said this, He was saying that the peace He will give His followers, is not the peace the rest of the world (unbelievers) has. To the unsaved, Peace means the lack of conflict. To the saved, it is composure in difficult times, it dissolves fear, and helps to maintain harmony. Since Satan can not duplicate this, he convinces non-believers that they have peace because there is a lack of conflict !!

" These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have over come the world. "         John   16 : 33

When Jesus shed His blood on the cross, Satan lost his hold of sin over this world !  Jesus has overcome the world. However, Satan still rules the world of unbelievers. Therefore, you will have trouble while you are in this world....but it will not kill you because Jesus has already won your life for you ( if you are a believer).  Because of these spiritual truths you will have peace that comes from Jesus !!  You will have trouble but Jesus will go through it with you !!!

" Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. "     Romans      5 : 1

Because of sin, God is at war with man !!!  Justification happens when a believer accepts Jesus as their Lord and savior. This is a one time spiritual transaction that happens when you are saved ! From that point forward Jesus is the bridge between us and God. Because of the work Jesus did on the cross and because of us being justified in God's sight, we are given Jesus' peace !! Thank you Jesus !!

" The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. "           Isaiah      32 : 17

This is almost a repeat of previous message.... however this is in the Old Testament !?   The difference between righteousness (found here) and justification  ( found in New Testament ) is Jesus. The difference is the law in the Old Testament and grace in the New Testament. The affect is the same. Look at what it says. the effect is quietness and assurance.

" Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. "       Philemon    1 : 3

This is a standard greeting from Paul in his letters. I included it here for only one reason : so we can all easily see where peace comes from..... God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

That concludes our study of Peace. Join us next week as we look at  long suffering.  If you would like to know more about us and what we do you can find us at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Peace

February 18, 2016

We had an emergency with someone in our class 2 weeks ago, so we had no class. I am sorry if you came looking for the weeks' lesson and it was not there ! This week we started looking at the spiritual fruit of Peace. As you might have guessed by now, Peace does not mean ONLY the absence of conflict. It can mean that but can also mean an inner peace. Today we are going to take a look at 5 versus that will show how God sees Peace.

" I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things. "       Isaiah 45 : 7
In this style of writing we see the use of opposites to prove a point. Also the author repeats it which shows the importance of his point. Here we see that the Lord says he creates light and peace. Who does scripture say that light and peace is ?  [ hint ;  Light of the world  and  Prince of Peace ] Jesus !!Likewise who does scripture say is calamity and darkness ?  Satan . So, in this verse we can see that Peace is how Jesus is referred to. And He will be the one to make Peace with God for the believers !!!

" If it is possible, as much on you, live peaceably with all men. "       Romans   12: 18
There is a difference between peace and lack of conflict !  Lack of conflict means you get trampled on !! Peace means that you do all you can to co-exist with your fellow man while each of you also honor the others limits. That is why this verse says as much as you can... because peace relies not only on your actions but also on those of other people.

" Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a houseful of feasting with strife. "      Proverbs    17 : 1
My translation : Better to be poor and peaceful than rich and constant strife.    Any one who has been wealthy and been poor will all tell you the same thing.  Poor is better but rich makes it temporarily better. Why ?    Because the constant need to  achieve and to protect what you have takes all of your time and effort. That means there is no time left for family, friends, or for God. Poor is not easy and can provide it's own issues. However when you learn to let go and give it all to God, that is when Peace is achieved.

" Do not take me away with the wicked and with the workers of inequity, who speak peace to their neighbors, but evil is in their hearts. "     Psalm      28 : 3
In this Psalm of David, he is asking God to not count him with the evil doers or to carry him away with them. Earlier we saw the use of opposites to prove a point, here we see the use of compare and contrast to prove a point. How many people do you know that are nice to your face and stab you in the back the first chance they get ??!! Well, based on this verse these people are wicked and evil doers ! The fruit of Peace shows that a person is the same on the inside as on the outside. Satan has a fake gift that shows that the rest of the world can see one person and he can be a different person with other people !!! God calls that evil !!!

" Now may the God of Peace Himself sanctify you completely ; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. "        1 Thessalonians     5  :  23
As  the Old Testament showed earlier, and again here, Jesus is the Lord of Peace. Here we see that the whole process of sanctification can only be done by the power of Jesus. So now we see that Peace is not the absence of conflict, but is the way of Jesus and the only way to sanctification. Since none of this can be done on man's own power, that is why we must receive this as a gift from God !!!

That wraps up this weeks study of Peace. Please join us again next week as we conclude our look at Peace. If you would like to know more about us and what we do.... you can find us at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Gentleness [Meekness]

February 4, 2016

" He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. "   Isaiah    53 : 7

This passage in the Old Testament tells of the crucifixion of Jesus !!  If you were being led away would you be silent ?  Most of us would be yelling and screaming that we are innocent. Yet here it says twice that Jesus was silent ! He was not doing His will but doing His Father's will. Jesus knew that if He did not die, we would all die in sin and go to hell. So.... He was silent and accepted death and was silent ! This power is given to all of us through the Holy Spirit !  As Christians we should learn to exercise this gift of gentleness and meekness instead of being " loud and proud ". That is not to say we should be door mats, but we should allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us and learn to obey !

" Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men."     Titus    3 : 1-2

In these versus Paul is telling Titus the type of behavior that Christians should show. As you can see He does not say riot in the streets or overthrow governments. This is the main reason Christians are persecuted around the world !  Because the unsaved know that there will be no resistance. However, the saying has long been around that " the growth of the church is by the blood of the martyrs. " This shows again that once we are born again, the Holy Spirit should be in charge of our lives and not us. Paul is reminding us here that this behavior he describes is not the behavior of an unsaved man.... but a saved man by the power of the Holy Spirit.

" Who is wise and understanding among you ? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. "        James   3 : 13

This is a major way we can discern if a person is saved or not. If they show arrogance and/or self promotion... chances are they are NOT saved ! These are the opposite of meekness. Also, the best definition I have heard for wisdom is this ; Rightly handled knowledge given by God !  wisdom is not a lot of knowledge, but is taken what knowledge we have and letting God show us the way we should go. That is true wisdom. Once again Paul is using the spiritual gifts so that non-believers  will see Jesus in us.  And isn't that the point !

" Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. "      Galatians    6 : 1

This verse has been abused more than many in the bible !!  Notice it says "...who are spiritual". This verse is used by many UN spiritual people in churches around the world !! When a person is caught in sin ( we are all sinners !) we should be brought back with gentleness and meekness. Not with an attitude of self righteousness and superiority ! Church leaders should learn what this verse truly says and not what they want it to say. Notice the last part,  "... lest you also be tempted. "  This is the other part they never see !!  Handle this verse correctly and you can help bring them back, handle it wrongly and not only will you loose them but you may also be lost !!!

This wraps up our look at gentleness  [meekness]. Join us next week as we look at peace. If you would like to know more about us we are at www.prayerboxministry.org. Be blessed and we will see you next week !

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Kindness

January 28, 2016

Kindness is one of the fruit that is pretty straight forward. We can look at someones behavior and rightly discern kindness. The lesson this week will look at some verses in the bible so we can tell what God says kindness is and where He says it comes from. Since this is pretty obvious we will spend only one week on this and next week we will be discussing meekness.

" If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for so you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you. "     Proverbs   25 : 21-22
The coals spoken of here are not coals of judgement meant to harm or condemn, but coals of kindness meant to melt the hard heart of the non-believer by deeds of kindness. In the New Testament Jesus teaches the same lesson when He talks about loving your enemy and praying for them.

" For if you love those who love you, what reward have you ? Do not even the tax collectors do the same ? And if you greet your brethren , what do you do more than others ? For do not even the tax collectors do so ?        Matthew   5 : 46-47
When Jesus died on the cross He died for each person and all people !!! The lesson Jesus is teaching here is that we should follow His example and not the example of Satan. When He is referring to the tax collectors, the most hated people in Israel, this refers to Satan. The law that non-believers follow is to be kind and greet only people of their kind... not to all people. What Jesus is teaching is to be kind to ALL people. The righteous and the unrighteous, the good and the bad, the believers and the non-believers.

" To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend, even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. "          Job   6 : 14
In the story of Job, he has lost everything and his friends come to "comfort" him. They all take turns telling Job that God is punishing him for sin. Job searches his soul and concludes he has not sinned, yet his friends continue to condemn him for sinning. In this verse Job is saying that even if he did sin, shouldn't his "friends" at least show kindness and stop accusing him of sinning ?  This is where the saying comes from (or at least should have) that we are to hate the sin and not the sinner. Job's friends should not have accused him but should have comforted him in his time of need. We as well meaning Christians should also learn this lesson !!

I was recently witness to the break up of a church because well meaning people were ( preachers) accusing and threatening people in the church congregation for living in sin. They should have taken a lesson from Job and comforted them and led them away from sin by leading them to Jesus instead of being righteous in their own minds and judging.....which is God's job not ours. Join us next week as we look at meekness. If you would like to know more about us or what we do, you can find us at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Righteousness ( Part 2 )

January 21, 2016

As we continue to teach on the Fruit of the Spirit, our class has more than doubled in 3 weeks and we now have 5 people getting saved !!! The Holy Spirit is confirming God's word through action. Today we will finish looking at righteousness. The four bible quotes chosen will show different aspects of this fruit and how we can apply to our lives.

" Not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him ? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous. "         1 John 3 : 12
This verse shows several things. One, we are not all from God. This was shown from the beginning , when Jesus came and told the leaders that their father was Satan, and is true all around us today !! Also this verse shows that righteousness and unrighteousness cannot live together. Not in the individual, not in business and not in marriage. One is the fruit of the Spirit and the other the fruit of Satan. Lastly, it puts a definition into what righteousness is : righteousness is doing what God says out of faith.

" No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgement you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord. "         Isaiah 54 : 17
This is referring to the the Jews, however, the spiritual truth is just as true today for believers. No weapon formed against a believer shall prosper. This verse also shows that when voices raise up against us in judgement, we are NOT to stand there and take it !! We are commanded that WE shall condemn it !! This verse also shows us where righteousness come from...."Me, says the Lord."

" ... even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference. "        Romans    3 : 22
This verse shows not where righteousness comes from, but why. Faith in Jesus Christ !!  All men have sinned and all are unrighteous in God's eyes. Believers are seen as righteous in God's eyes ONLY because of the sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross. But this righteousness is given by God only to those who believe in His Son and believe the sacrifice He made for them. Amen !!!

" Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. "       Matthew   5:6
Do the unsaved people hunger  and thirst for righteousness ?  Only the believers who have the Holy Spirit in them hunger and thirst for righteousness ! So this verse shows WHO can receive righteousness. This verse shows us that even after we receive the Spirit we can continually be filled with the Spirit and the fruit continues to grow. Thank God and Praise Him !!!

That concludes our study of righteousness. Join us next week as we look at Kindness. Also, if you would like to know more about us and what we do, you can find us at   www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Righteousness

January 14, 2016

Sometimes there is a word or concept that you know what it means but you just can not find the best way to describe it to someone else !  One of those words for me is sanctification. I have taught for years and still I come up short when trying to explain this !!  The word righteousness is another of those words. So I have learned that whenever I teach on these words..... I pull out my bible dictionary and read directly from it. This week was no exception : As we started class I read the entire passage to the class before we read the passages.  Here I will not do the whole passage, but will write enough that you will get a good idea ! Then we will cover 4 or 5 passages from God's word that will show different aspects of righteousness.

"RIGHTEOUSNESS - Holy and upright living, in accordance with God's standard. The word righteousness comes from a root word that means " straightness". It refers to a state that conforms to an authoritative standard. Righteousness is a moral concept. God's character is the definition and source of all righteousness (Gen. 18:25; Deut. 32:4; Rom. 9:14). Therefore, man's righteousness is defined in terms of God's.......God accounts or transfers the righteousness of Christ to those who trust in Him. ( Rom. 4:3-22; Gal. 3:6; Phil. 3:9) We do not become righteous because of our inherent goodness; God sees us as righteous because of our identification by faith with His Son."  (Nelson's Illustrated Dictionary of the Bible   page 918 )

" Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."    Hebrews 12 : 11
When we were children, our parents would chasten us to teach us the difference between good and bad behavior.  It was never fun !!! In fact it usually hurt. The key to this passage , however, is the last part... to those who are trained by it.  If as a child your parents chastened you over and over and you did not learn the message...Then your behavior was not changed. God treats us the same way. He chastens us in many ways to teach us what He wants from our behavior. If we listen and obey, then we will reflect His righteousness !!!

" For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."   ( Romans 5 : 17 )
When Adam sinned he brought universal sin into the world. When God said that he (Adam) will surely die Satan convinced him God meant physically and not spiritually. But that was not the case so now all men will surely die spiritually until one man Jesus, came and died for our sins. So, no life is given abundantly to those who believe in Jesus. Death was given by one man and life given more abundantly through Jesus ! Because of this the fruit of righteousness is now available to the ones who believe in Jesus !!

" For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness."   ( Romans 6 : 20 )
This passage draws the sharp contrast between those who are saved and those who are not. Those who are saved have the Fruit of the Spirit, those that are not have the fruit of Satan. For every good thing God gives his followers Satan has a cheap imitation. Satan's fruit leads to death and destruction.
God's fruit leads to life and eternity with Jesus !  Again.... the Fruit of the Spirit is available ONLY to those who are saved and have given their life to Jesus. IS THAT YOU ????

" and said,"O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord ?     ( Acts 13 : 10 )
Here the Holy Spirit is speaking through Paul and tells us the goal of Satan and hi phony fruit ! As we showed earlier Satan has much fruit that leads to death and destruction, here Paul calls out 2 of them.....deceit and fraud. The goal of Satan is stated here is to pervert the straight ways of the Lord.

Next week we will finish up our study of righteousness ! Be blessed and if you want to know more about us and what we do you can find us at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Truthfulness ( Part 2 )

January 7, 2016

When we say the word " Truthfulness "  we all have an idea what that looks like.  As we have learned in this study, there are many ways and forms that the bible means when it says this. It means to be truthful in ALL ways and in all forms of thought, action, and belief.  In the following four versus we will get an example of what this should look like when this fruit shows in us !

" The truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. "     Proverbs  12 : 19
This shows the benefit of truthfulness versus lying. Stated another way lying will benefit the flesh for a minute ( may get you out of trouble )  but truthfulness will be credited to you as righteousness in heaven forever ( You may get in trouble now, but you will pay for it now and not later ! )

" Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight. "     Proverbs  12 : 22
Two versus later Proverbs draws a contrast  to how the Lord looks at truthfulness.  Of all the things that man does against God's will, there is only 7 that are an abomination  ( means He hates worst above everything else !) in His sight, and lying lips is one of them. That is why it is one of the fruits of the Spirit !

"" Your dwelling place is in the midst of deceit; Through deceit they refuse to know  Me" says the Lord."    Jeremiah  9 : 6
The first part of this chapter talks about all the deceit that the people have  done and this is the final verse of that section. The rest of the chapter talks about  how the Lord is going to deal with His people. This verse tells us that because the people have chosen to lie and deceive the choice they have really made is to not to know Him !!!  Since God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.... the same holds true for us.  Every time we choose to lie, we are really choosing not to know Him !

" You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. "     John  8 : 44
It is normal for a son to want to imitate their father. So when the Jews decided not to trust that Jesus was from God, they were choosing to believe ( and to imitate their father )  their father the devil.   When it talks about him being a murderer from the beginning, this refers to when he caused Adam and Eve to sin in the Garden of Eden and to loose their spiritual life.

Join us next week when we take a look at what God's word says about righteousness. Also, if you would like to know more about us and what we do, you can find us at www.prayerboxministry.org.

Fruit Of The Spirit ... Truthfulness

December 31, 2015

When we talk about the Fruit of the Spirit, we are talking about what happens to us as the Holy Spirit indwells us. If that is true, then what fruit indwells us before we are saved?  Jesus answers that question when He told some of the Jewish leaders that their father was the father of all lies.... Satan !
For every spiritual thing given to us by God,  Satan has a cheap imitation !  In today's fruit of truthfulness, the cheap imitation is lies. Satan is the father of all lies.

In this week's study we will look at 5 versus from the book of John in the New Testament.

" And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."   John 1 : 14
In this verse we see that the Word (Jesus) became flesh (human) and we saw His glory even though His glory was inside flesh. The glory that we saw was that Jesus was full of grace and truth. If all of humanity had a spirit of lies and rebellion in their spirit, then when one comes that has the Spirit of grace and truth, ALL would see His glory. This same truth applies today... If you have the Holy Spirit in you, the unsaved people will see that. You never know who is watching you !

" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" ."   John  14 : 6 .
This was the phrase that started the Jews to plot to kill Jesus ! Why ?  When God had given the instructions on how to build the temple, there were three section. Each was set apart from the other from the other. The inner most Holy of Holy was where God would come to be among His people. Each of these sections had only one gate to get to God. Each gate had a name. The names were the way, the truth and the life. What Jesus was saying here was that there was ONLY one way to God... and that was through Him !

" the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you."     John 14 : 17
In this verse we see plainly that Jesus says the Holy spirit will dwell with you and WILL BE in you. Why does He say this ?   Because Jesus has not died for us yet. After He dies THEN the Holy Spirit can come and live inside us. Here, also Jesus gives the Holy Spirit the name of Spirit of Truth. This is to let all believers know that this Spirit is from God and not a cheap copy from Satan !!

" However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come."      John  16 : 13
Once again Jesus confirms a name of Spirit of Truth for the Holy Spirit. He also tells us something about the Spirits job when He does come to indwell us. 1) Guide us into all truth, 2) Speak only what he hears, 3) Speak not in His own authority, and 4) tell us things to come. This truth from Jesus was a radical idea since the Holy Spirit is yet to indwell anyone and Yet Jesus is telling us not only that He will, but is also telling us part of what the job of the Holy Spirit  (Spirit of Truth) will be !

" Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth."      John  17 : 17
To be sanctified is to be set apart for God's purpose. The process of sanctification is a life long spiritual process done by the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer. The goal is to as much like Jesus as we can. This process can ONLY be accomplished by the truth and with the truth.... The Holy Spirit and the word of God !

Next week we will finish up with the fruit of Truthfulness. I hope this study is helping you in your walk and pray Jesus uses this study to reach many with His Truth !!!
